Earlier this week I had the good fortune to attend the Past President's Dinner at Carolina Golf Club. It truly is a wonderful tradition and something I look forward to every year. During the evening I couldn't help but think of an older post where I wrote about the occasion and a missed opportunity to express my thoughts and feelings about being the superintendent of Carolina Golf Club. The roller coaster that is winter in the Carolinas continues. π’ Tomorrow’s shotgun going to be a bit chilly too! π³π₯Άπ #cltwx https://t.co/Rxs8Cg282B— Matthew Wharton (@CGCGreenkeeper) December 18, 2019
I searched The Greenkeeper archives early this morning for that post and discovered ironically it was exactly six years ago today. Which turns out to be the last time Christmas Day fell on Wednesday like it does this year. The post dated Friday, December 20, 2013 expressed thoughts and feelings that couldn't be summarized any better today. So kickback, pour a cup of coffee and enjoy Quick Update, Reflections, and Merry Christmas!
I hope you enjoyed that look back. Just like six years ago we hit the road in the morning for Virginia. Four Christmases in four days before we make the trek back to the Queen City on Christmas Day, wish us luck! And just in case Santa didn't see my wish on Twitter I've embedded it here so fingers crossed he sees this.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!

I’m still in shock typing this. On February 16, 2025, my score suddenly crashed more than 190 points overnight from low-800s all the way down to 611 because of a bogus 90-day late on my federal student loans. The loans had been with Great Lakes, got transferred to Nelnet, and were paused during COVID. Somehow Nelnet never updated my address and kept mailing statements to an old place. I never saw them, never knew payments restarted, and boom reported 90 days late.
ReplyDeleteI called Nelnet repeatedly, begged, explained the COVID pause mess and they basically said “not our problem, you should’ve updated your address.” Even my CFPB complaint came back denied. I thought I was screwed for years.
Posted my story on myFICO® Forums completely defeated, and someone in the comments said “Reach out to Pinnacle Credit Specialist they fixed the exact same thing for me.” I was super skeptical (felt like every “credit repair” place was a scam), but I was desperate.
Emailed PINNACLECREDITSPECIALIST@GMAIL.COM and called +1 (201) 605-9008 the same day. They responded in under 2 hours, explained everything clearly, no pressure, no insane upfront fees.
In exactly 30 days they: Got the 90-day late permanently deleted from all three bureaus, removed every trace of the derogatory mark, Boosted my scores to 836 Equifax, 841 TransUnion, 837 Experian
I just pulled fresh reports today to confirm the late is GONE. My scores are actually higher than they were before the drop.
If you’re dealing with inaccurate student loan lates, Nelnet nonsense, or any unfair derogatory marks please don’t waste months fighting the bureaus and servicers yourself. Pinnacle knows exactly what to do and they move fast.

Forever grateful. I’m posting this far and wide so others don’t have to suffer like I did.
